Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA)
The Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) is a research institute at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). ICTA aims to promote interdisciplinary research and training in the area of environmental sciences and technology. It has strong expertise in multidisciplinary research linking the natural and the social sciences. At present, it has a team of 155 specialists in natural and social sciences (75 academic staff and 80 research students). Its researchers are currently involved in 28 EU-funded projects and have an active publication role with an average of 205 SCI articles per year.
ICTA offers a Masters program in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability and a PhD program in Environmental Science and Technology (a continuation of the PhD in Environmental Science offered at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona since 1997-98). They are cross-disciplinary and inter-departmental initiatives with an international focus. ICTA’s PhD program has been awarded the prestigious “Mención de Calidad” for quality education in doctoral programs by the Spanish Ministry for Education. ICTA professors currently direct the PhD work of some 90 students. About 60% of the students are foreign.
